Migraine: symptoms, treament, and help

Welcome to the all-you-need guide in your journey to fight against migraines. Migraine is a neurological disease that is genetical in origin. The real cause of migraine is still unknown. If you are unsure that you have migraine read migraine symptoms. Although migraine has no cure, it can be controlled to relieve the migraineur.

The hardest thing about migraine is that the pain associated with it can be debilitating, putting you on a temporary disability. It may affect multiple areas of the body (head, neck, back, abdomen, eyes, jaws, etc), and the relief is not unique for all migraineurs. You have to be persistent in trying new treatments and medicines until you find the right treatment combination for you. The important thing is that don’t give up! Many migraineurs have found a way to control their migraines, and they are enjoying both their work activities and sharing time with their family.

People’s ignorance about migraine may aggravate the migraineur’s suffering, and it may push him or her to feel lonely and sad. Migraineurs have to deal with problems ranging from work down to family problems. For example, you have a task due tomorrow, but migraine holds you back from finishing your task. Your boss or coworkers may not sympathize with you because they think migraine is just a headache! In fact, headaches might be a symptom among many other symptoms of migraine. People may not understand you, but you have to educate them and make them respect you. Another example is when you visit a doctor, he or she may not understand you! Some doctors may say it is not possible to have headaches all over your head! I know, so many migraineurs have been there! Your response may be that you feel singled out in this world! You have so much pain, but even doctors whom you expect to find a solution to your ordeal cannot help you. So, you have to get the right doctor for you, a knowlegeable doctor who listens and discusses treatment options with you.

One’s response to some prescription drugs may change over time. For example, if you take a certain drug for three months, you may experience some relief, but right after the three months, you may notice that your body got used to that medication. My advice: Don’t rely solely on prescription drugs. Prescription drugs may have numerous side effects including addictive effects. The best and wiser of practices is to combine relatively lower doses of drugs with alternative and natural therapies.

No perfect migraine treatment: What can we do?

There is really no magic or perfect cure/quick fix for migraines. Up to these days, doctors cannot help you much, simply because migraine is still not a fully understood disease. You are left with the only option: rely on yourself in the fight against migraine. Migraineurs should help their doctors help them! You cannot rely solely on your doctor's help! You've got to help yourself. Take action and help yourself: educate yourself about migraine, drugs and their benefits or side effects, Get involved in some online groups, and keep a migraine diary to find your triggers.

Migraine Treatment: Drugs, alternative therapy, and natural supplements:

Try to follow a "healing culture" by going through the next steps to heal your migraine.

1. Mentality for a best treatment.
Once you are diagnosed with migraines, understand that it is not the end of the world! Some migraineurs were healed from their migraines within months of their first migraine symptoms. If you are patient and open minded, you should take advantage of available help to control your migraines. Adopt the idea that migraines can be managed and controlled. Educate yourself about migraine relief, medication, and treatment.

2. follow a healthy life style.
Sleep (on time/regular), sports(regular, swimming is best), organic food, vegetables, fruits, eliminate over the counter (OTC) drugs, drink more plain water, and avoid stressful situations.

3. keep a diary to find possible migraine triggers.
A diary can help you find triggers, check whether there is any real improvement in your headaches.

4. Eliminate easily identifiable conditions by doing a CAT scan/ MRI/ EEG/ blood test.
These conditions include brain tumor, multiple sclerosis, diabetes, etc

5. you may consider taking some food supplements, using alternative medicine, and taking herbal medicine.
(ask your doctor for conflicts in case you are taking a prescription drug. Also watch out for aspartame and artificial ingredients especially sweetners in all products you consume!)

6. Prescription drugs.
I do not recommend prescription drugs, especially the ones that you have to take on a daily basis (migraine preventive medication), but drugs may well be the only answer for some migraineurs. The side effects as well as the intended effects of some prescription drugs may differ depending on the dosage or the patient. Be careful!!! What works for a 35 year old person may not work on an 18 year old.

7. Find the right doctor.
You may not consider this tip seriously, but a good doctor is what makes the difference between controlling your migraine and being captive of your migraines. Some doctors may even make you feel guilty for not following something they said, but the reality tends to be that many doctors are not suited to treat migraine patients; They are either lacking patience or knowlege to deal with migraine patients.
